There is something inherently daring about staging Dave Malloyβs Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. It is a show that demands intimacy, chaos, and a relentless vocal engine. When staged inside The Greenhouse Cabaret, a venue that uniquely doubles as a lush plant shop, the result is an immersive, botanical-meets-Bolshevik experience that pushes the boundaries of audience inclusion. Director Josh Swann utilizes the unconventional space to lean heavily into the "electro-pop opera" roots of the show. While the production occasionally grappled with clunky transitions and "traffic jams" caused by a restrictive set layout, the heart of the story remained clear. The set design itself is a triumph of atmosphere: a modern Russian club centered around a main runway that slices through the audience, blurring the line between observer and participant. Where the production truly sparkles is in the incredible costuming by Dora Novak. Novak shines with an avant-garde approach to each characterβs look, seamlessly blending old Russian wartime silhouettes with a chic, modern pastel palette. The attention to detail dripping in beautiful jewels, pearls, and striking makeup gives the production

It is straight up criminal that it has taken me this long to see a show here. Recently went to Liza's Lounge (#3) and holy crap did it blow away all my expectations. The singing was spectacular, the music was wonderful, the set was perfect, and I'm so glad I was able to go. I took my mom and she thought it was just amazing and was so glad I took her. "It was just like New York!" I cannot corroborate myself but I'll take her word and Fertile Liza's word on that as I haven't been to shows in NY. Get on the mailing list and get tickets!
